Preparations are Underway!

It's hard to believe but LP's first birthday is quickly approaching... He'll be 1 next Tuesday!  We had brunch with Paul's parents yesterday as it was my mother-in-law's birthday and we were remembering that I was pregnant for her birthday last year, expecting that it would be another month until we got to meet our little guy.  Little did we know then that by the end of the week I'd be heading to the hospital to be induced!

So this Saturday we're having a small little birthday party for LP with a few friends from our playgroup and my parents.  I have big plans for his cake and will post pictures once it's baked and decorated (assuming all goes well).  One of the other things I wanted to make him was a birthday crown that he can wear this year and for all of his birthdays in the future.  Here's a few pictures of what I came up with last night- it's adjustable in the back with elastic and can easily be re-sized if necessary as he grows...  And best of all he left it on long enough for me to take some pictures which makes me hopeful that he'll leave it on for at least a few minutes on the big day!

And with that my little prince has apparently woken up from his very short nap (we're home today as day care is closed due to the flu) so I'll sign off and go get my little man!

  1. I can't believe it's been a year already! I'm looking forward to the cake pics. Will you be wearing those same PJs that you had on in the hospital pics??

What Winter Looks Like...

(Welcome to anyone arriving here from Blue Zebra Photography !) (Oh!  And this is post # 500 on Ye Olde Blogge.  Wow!) I mentioned earlier that I'm participating in two different photography projects this year with other members of the Bloom Forum .   The second project I'm participating in are monthly photos that relate to a certain theme or word. For January, the theme is "Winter." We've had an odd winter so far here in Massachusetts.  Hardly any snow at all and over the weekend it was actually in the 50's which is pretty unusual.  We did have a brief snowstorm last week though and while LP and Eliza were cozied up on the couch together I wandered around and took a few photos of the scene.  I love how cozy it is in our house when it's snowy out and wanted to capture some images that conveyed that... February: What Shadow Looks Like

(Welcome if you’re coming from Suzanne O'Brien Studio in Northern California!) This month’s group photography theme was “shadow.”  I’ll admit, I had a bit of a hard time with this one.  We’re in the middle of the February doldrums around these parts, and while the sun does shine from time to time it’s cold and blustery and damp most days.  It was tough to get motivated and creative about this, but that’s the whole point of the challenge! The kids and I were in the living room one afternoon and LP was lining his toys up on the windowsill.  The (frigid) afternoon sun was pouring in and I realized that there was a sort of lightbox effect.   I enlisted LP’s help in photographing some of his favorite toys (and one of Eliza’s) so he was the “stylist” for this little photo shoot.  I think if we ever have a dedicated play room I might frame some of these photos for the walls! 10 on 10: January

This year I've decided to participate in two monthly photography projects along with some of the other members of Bloom , a photography forum I'm part of.   The first of these projects is a 10 on 10:   Ten photos taken during one day or event, documenting that day or event, and posted on the tenth of the month.   Everyone's entries are posted in a blog circle- you can follow the links from blog to blog and see everyone's contribution. (And WELCOME! to any of you who might have come here from Rachel McCalley Photography !)   I decided to use the 10 on 10 in January to document a typical day now that I'm a full-time stay at home mom.  A few caveats:  I neglected to take any photos of the morning which was spent at the pediatrician as it was a rather negative experience (more on that in another upcoming post).  I also neglected to notice that my camera was set on jpeg instead of raw (perhaps a child was messing with my settings?  Am not sure wha...
