The Rockettes...

.... the US Men's Soccer Team, and Riverdance......

I'm convinced that mini-Paul is practicing his audition moves for one of these... I'd prefer him to go with soccer but hey, if he wants to be a Rockette or a Riverdancer, so be it.. Whatever makes him happy...

Seriously, this kid is kicking me like there's no tomorrow and I know it's only just beginning. It's a non-stop tap dance in my uterus... And he's kicking hard enough to be felt from the outside although Paul hasn't felt it yet as it's only happened when he wasn't around or was already asleep...

Gabby felt it though. She was sleeping on top of me on the couch last night (which will be stopping soon as it's not terribly comfortable to have 2 living beings lying on top of you at once.) Then the baby kicked and startled her right out of her sleep. She growled and climbed off me, rolled over on her back and went back to snoring... At least she didn't attack my stomach the way she attacks a blanket if something is moving (like your foot) under it!

In other baby news when we went to bed the other night I told Paul that I thought the baby was sleeping as he wasn't kicking me. Paul said "do babies sleep in there?" To which I replied, "well I'm sure he's busy writing his life story, alphabetizing my ovaries and learning to speak fluent Mandarin but he probably takes a nap once in a while..." Is there a "Pregnancy for Dummies" book? Cause I think we might need it.. one that has lots of pictures preferably... or maybe a video would be good... Paul's knowledge right now is basically whatever I tell him, i.e. "The baby is the size of a spaghetti squash, or the baby is growing his pancreas..." (oh I just googled it and there IS a Pregnancy for Dummies book... wow... I was mostly kidding about that...

Also, my belly button is getting shallower.. It only holds about half as much lint as it used to.. So I'm guessing that in a few weeks it's going to pop out.. Someone should arrange it so that the belly button pops at the same time that you go into labor, the way a turkey thermometer pops when the turkey is done.. that would be way more convenient... "Is it braxton hicks, or real labor?? nope- belly button is still in.. not real labor yet!"...

So those are my baby thoughts for today... Sorry if they're rambling but I've been working long hours this week and my brain function isn't quite there...

Oh and a friend of mine from college is off to the hospital to be induced tonight- her first baby, a boy as well- she was due on August 2.... We're all hoping she has the baby tomorrow as then he'll have the same birthday as the little boy of another college friend which would be fun.. And of course we're all hoping that everything goes well for them!!

What Winter Looks Like...

(Welcome to anyone arriving here from Blue Zebra Photography !) (Oh!  And this is post # 500 on Ye Olde Blogge.  Wow!) I mentioned earlier that I'm participating in two different photography projects this year with other members of the Bloom Forum .   The second project I'm participating in are monthly photos that relate to a certain theme or word. For January, the theme is "Winter." We've had an odd winter so far here in Massachusetts.  Hardly any snow at all and over the weekend it was actually in the 50's which is pretty unusual.  We did have a brief snowstorm last week though and while LP and Eliza were cozied up on the couch together I wandered around and took a few photos of the scene.  I love how cozy it is in our house when it's snowy out and wanted to capture some images that conveyed that... February: What Shadow Looks Like

(Welcome if you’re coming from Suzanne O'Brien Studio in Northern California!) This month’s group photography theme was “shadow.”  I’ll admit, I had a bit of a hard time with this one.  We’re in the middle of the February doldrums around these parts, and while the sun does shine from time to time it’s cold and blustery and damp most days.  It was tough to get motivated and creative about this, but that’s the whole point of the challenge! The kids and I were in the living room one afternoon and LP was lining his toys up on the windowsill.  The (frigid) afternoon sun was pouring in and I realized that there was a sort of lightbox effect.   I enlisted LP’s help in photographing some of his favorite toys (and one of Eliza’s) so he was the “stylist” for this little photo shoot.  I think if we ever have a dedicated play room I might frame some of these photos for the walls! March: What Home Looks Like

(Welcome if you've arrived here from Laurie Schultz's blog !)  Over the years the definition of Home for me has changed.  Growing up it was, of course, the house I lived in with my parents and my brothers.   Even after college when I moved to another state “home” was still back in that house.   Although my apartments were homey and some of my roommates became like family to me, Home was always back in my hometown in the house I grew up in. Even after moving in with Paul, getting married, and buying our own house, a small part of me still felt like home was back in Pennsylvania.  We were creating our own newlywed version of home but I always referred to going to my parents’ house as “going home.”  This has changed since having children though.  Now home is here- where my heart is, figuratively and literally.  It’s wonderful and exhausting and messy and crazy- usually all at once.  And I wouldn't change any of it.  Now, home is where my hubby takes care of thin
