Happy Birthday, A Day Late....

To my husband, my so-called "better" half (although I think "other" half is more appropriate!), my snack monster who sneaks downstairs at 11 p.m. for cookies...

That's my hubby, one of my favorite photos of him from our wedding day ...

Paul turned 36 yesterday and we celebrated by having his parents over for dinner and dining on Caesar Salad, Garwoods Pasta (his favorite meal from our honeymoon that the chef was kind enough to send me the recipe for) and individual chocolate mascarpone cheesecakes, all made by yours truly (and as a result I was too tired last night to post this!)

I managed to surprise him with a certificate for a plane ticket to Las Vegas so that he can visit his brothers "baby-free" one more time before our little one arrives... If any man deserves a vacation it's this one- anyone who leaves for work at 5:15 a.m. and doesn't get home til 5 p.m. and then gets up on the weekends at 8 a.m. and does all the laundry deserves a break!

He's the love of my life and I'm so happy that we found each other and jumped head first into life together...

Here's to you honey and here's to at least another 80 years!

February: What Shadow Looks Like

(Welcome if you’re coming from Suzanne O'Brien Studio in Northern California!) This month’s group photography theme was “shadow.”  I’ll admit, I had a bit of a hard time with this one.  We’re in the middle of the February doldrums around these parts, and while the sun does shine from time to time it’s cold and blustery and damp most days.  It was tough to get motivated and creative about this, but that’s the whole point of the challenge! The kids and I were in the living room one afternoon and LP was lining his toys up on the windowsill.  The (frigid) afternoon sun was pouring in and I realized that there was a sort of lightbox effect.   I enlisted LP’s help in photographing some of his favorite toys (and one of Eliza’s) so he was the “stylist” for this little photo shoot.  I think if we ever have a dedicated play room I might frame some of these photos for the walls! A Bit of Sewing….

I’ve been on a sewing kick lately- made a few things for Eliza that I thought I’d share (of course, I also have a list about a mile long of things I really need to get working on for Christmas, but bumped them all to make these little, totally not needed but too cute to resist, pieces…). First up is another Geranium Dress from the pattern by Made by Rae .  The pattern is for a sleeveless dress or one with cap sleeves but I really wanted long sleeves so I drafted my own and they worked out perfectly!  The fabric is a super soft baby corduroy.  I made a mistake and sewed the skirt on the wrong way- instead of picking it all apart though I decided to just cover my seam (which should have been on the inside- whoops, distracted!) with a  fabric band.  I used the same fabric for the lining in the bodice. On the patch pockets I stitched Eliza’s name- it says “Eliza” on one pocket and “Rose” on the other.. I wish I’d used the polkadot pattern for the pockets as I thi...

10 on 10: July

10 on 10: Ten photos taken during one day or event, documenting that day or event, and posted on the tenth of the month . This year was our first fourth of July where it was just the 4 of us.  In the past Paul’s parents were living nearby and we’d all get together.  This year though we had a quiet day at home.   The kids splashed in the kiddie pool and Paul smoked up some ribs for dinner.  Yum! Now head on over to Kate Suzanne Photography - she just relocated to Asheville, NC and is sure to have a great 10 in 10!
