Wowsers....

Today an early Christmas present came in the mail- something I bought for myself.   It's a book. A special book.  This one: It's a book titled " Embellish Me " written by blogger/fabric designer/author/creative genius Laurie Wisbrun , all about how to print, dye and decorate your fabric.   Why is it such a special book?  Well, check out this page: Let's look a little closer, shall we? And perhaps check out the list of contributors?? And the index? That's right!  I'm in the book!  So exciting! So, I can hear you saying, how did this come about? Well, more than a year ago, out of the blue, I had an email from Laurie.  She'd seen a photo of some fabric I stenciled to use for cushions on our patio on Flickr.  (Here's a link to the blog post where I showed off the cushions).  She said she was writing a new book and wanted to know if she could have permission to possibly use my photo.  She said ...

T- 3 Days!

Yikes!  Baby Sister's arrival is coming up quickly!  I'm home on maternity leave now and am just waiting to go.  Had my final doctor's appointment on Friday and was told that I'm dilated to 2 cms which is farther than I ever got with LP, even after being induced.   The doctor said they'd see me Friday morning as scheduled or earlier!  Of course, now every time I feel any sort of twinge I wonder if I'm about to go into labor.  I'd be more than happy if she decided to arrive a little early but Paul is pretty stressed with work lately and prefers that I stick to the schedule.  So we'll see!  Either way, she'll be here by Friday morning at the latest! I've pretty much gotten everything done that I wanted to.  I still have a little cleaning to do (I can't leave the house for a few days without vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms, and mopping the floor)- even though I know nothing will be as clean as I left it when I get back anyway.  But my bag...

Nursery Update: Part 1

Back in March, before we even knew we were having a girl, I put together an inspiration board for a girl's nursery and I'm beyond excited that I actually get to put it all together!  Here's the plan (for  more details check out the blog post about the inspiration board ): Today seemed like a good day to get started on the first step.  I'm hoping to get all the painting and shuffling of furniture done now while I'm still fairly mobile and it's still cool out and work on the sewing as I get larger and the weather gets hotter (my sewing room is in the basement and stays nice and cool year round).   Here's what the nursery looked like this morning (and this was after last weekend's massive clearing out of Christmas wrapping paper, boxes, and baby boy clothes): I thought I'd start with the eyelet lace border I wanted to add to the walls.  More than a year ago I ran across a tutorial for using contact paper and a piece of cardboard to add a sca...

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

Here's a quick little decor update I did recently using my Silhouette SD and some vinyl.  When we redecorated our downstairs bathroom we got rid of the old, cheap-o medicine cabinet.  At least, we got rid of the cabinet part of it.  Cheap crafty Emily insisted on keeping the mirrored door, even though it was covered in brown vinyl that was peeling off of it.  The door sat in our basement for a while until one day when I spraypainted the frame in a silvery color to give it a new life.  It was then propped up in the corner of our countertop behind our coffeemakers (yes, we have 2 coffeemakers on the counter - we prefer to have a variety of ways to get our caffeine) to hide the corner space behind them, cover up some plugs and outlets, and bring a little light into the corner of the room. Here's what it looked like after a coat of spray paint: I really loved the way the mirror hid the funny corner space and cords but wasn't in love with the mirror itself so decided...
