Moms vs. Dads

Growing up with two brothers I always knew there were some major differences between the way men do things and the way women do things.  You know, the whole “ Men are From Mars, Women are from Venus ” thing (which I’m pretty sure my mother had a copy of on her nightstand for several years in an attempt to try to make sense of it all).   Pre-kids, this male vs. female thing didn’t make too much difference in day to day life.  I was the “multi-tasker”: jumping from one thing to the next, making dinner while simultaneously checking my email, listening to music, feeding the dogs, and tidying up.  Paul was the “fixer” and the “get it done” guy.  One project at a time, if there was a problem, yo, he’d solve it (to paraphrase my fave rapper, Vanilla Ice ).  We each took care of ourselves for the most part- of course there were tasks that were shared but Paul has always ironed his own clothing and I do mine.  It works for us.  After becoming parents though, some of the differences between th

Hands...

So I haven't gotten very far in figuring out a career in photography.  It's in the works though- I'm hoping that after baby girl arrives and we're settled in and I'm not working out of the home any more I can start doing some shoots for people here and there and maybe start up my own little business.   But although I mainly take photos of LP these days, I was recently commissioned to take some photos to be used on notecards at my parents' church. (And by commissioned, I mean that my mom asked me to stop by and snap some pictures when I was visiting them in PA last month.  Commissioned just sounds better) This project actually started back in the fall of 2010.  The church had started a senior group called Open Arms which meets twice a week, and wanted some photos of hands to use on notecards as a little fundraiser.  I don't think I ever shared the photos I took back then, so here are some of them: Of course, looking back, all I can see is the mistakes I made

Meltdown Averted...

On Friday, week 18 of this pregnancy, Paul came home early from work so that we could all go to an ultrasound together and hopefully find out that this baby is good and healthy and whether it is a boy or a girl.... Now LP has been convinced it was a girl since day one, a girl named Molly.  I was convinced it was a boy.  Paul had no opinion on what the baby might be but wanted another boy- he grew up with 2 brothers and doesn't quite know what do with a girl. Plus he's cheap (both of us are, really) and he thought it would be more thrifty to have another boy- after all, we're all stocked up on baby blue clothing....  The baby was moving like crazy the whole time and the ultrasound tech could hardly believe how wriggly it was!  She kept asking me if I'd eaten a candy bar right before coming in or something.  I remember when we went for that first ultrasound with LP they said he was moving a lot too but this baby definitely seemed to be moving more.   Makes me a bit nervou
